If you manage large word list groups, the same word may accidentally appear in more than one list. Vocab Loco makes it easy to find and clean up duplicates.
How to Find and Remove Duplicate Words
Step 1: Open the group editor
- Go to Word Lists and select the Custom Word Lists tab.
- Click Manage Words on the group card.
Step 2: Open the Actions menu
- Inside the editor, click the Actions button in the word editor toolbar.
- A dropdown menu will open with options for the current list.
Step 3: Click Find Duplicate Words
- In the Actions dropdown, click Find duplicate words.
- Vocab Loco scans all lists in the group and opens a modal showing every word that appears in more than one list.
- Each duplicate word shows the names of the lists it belongs to.
Step 4: Review and remove
- In the duplicates modal, click the list name next to a word.
- Vocab Loco closes the modal, navigates to that list, and highlights the word.
- Delete the word from that list to remove the duplicate.
- Repeat for any remaining duplicates.
? Pro Tip: Run the duplicate check after importing lists in bulk. Imported data from different sources often includes repeated words that are easy to miss.
Q: Does Find Duplicate Words check across different groups? A: No. The duplicate check only looks within the current group. To check across groups, open each group's editor and run the check separately.
Q: Will removing a duplicate from one list delete it from all lists? A: No. Removing a word from a list only deletes it from that specific list. Other lists are not affected.
