How to Edit/Customize Word's Definitions, Sentences Synonyms, and Antonyms in Your Word Lists

Created by Vocab Loco, Modified on Tue, 28 Apr at 6:26 PM by Ace Turner

If you are using Vocab Loco with subject-specific vocabulary (like science or social studies), it is important to make sure each word reflects the correct meaning. Some words, like bark or cell, can have multiple meanings — and the activities in Vocab Loco may use definitions, sentences, synonyms, or antonyms to build questions.

To give you full control, Vocab Loco lets you customize all of these fields — not just the definition.

How to Edit Word Details (Definition, Sentence, Synonyms, and Antonyms)

Step 1: Go to Word Lists

  • From your Teacher Dashboard, click Word Lists in the left sidebar.

Step 2: Open the Custom Word Lists tab

  • At the top of the page, select the Custom Word Lists tab.

Step 3: Open the group

  • Find the group that contains the word you want to edit.
  • Click Manage Words on the group card.
  • In the left sidebar, click the word list that contains the word.

Step 4: Find the word you want to update

  • Locate the word in the editor on the right side of the screen.

Step 5: Edit the word details

  • Click the ✏️ Edit button next to the word.
  • Adjust the Definition, Sentence, Synonym(s), and Antonym(s) as needed.
  • Changes take effect immediately.

Where do these show up?

  • Definitions are used in definition-based activities.
  • Sentences, Synonyms, and Antonyms may appear in modules like Word Pop, Multiple Choice test, and Vocabulary Bee.

If the sentence, synonyms, or antonyms do not match your intended meaning, it can lead to confusing results for students — especially for words with multiple meanings (like bark). Customizing them ensures students see content that aligns with your instruction.

Good to know

  • All modules will pull from your custom entries.
  • If a synonym or antonym is left blank, the activity will skip it — so you can also choose to remove misleading entries instead of replacing them.
  • Updates take effect immediately.

Q: If I use the same word in another word list, will the customizations carry over?
A: Yes. Customizations are saved to the word and will apply whenever that word appears across your word lists.
