How Word Lists Work for Students in Vocab Loco

Word Lists are the heart of your learning in Vocab Loco. Each list your teacher assigns contains lessons with different activities — from vocabulary and spelling to games, stories, and tests. Here's how it all fits together.

Step 1: Find your word lists

  • Click Word Lists in the left sidebar. You'll see a card for every list your teacher has assigned to you.
  • Each card shows the list name, how many lessons and words it contains, and when you last opened it.
  • If your teacher set a schedule, a badge will appear on the card telling you its current status:
    • Available — you can open and work on it now.
    • Coming Soon — it hasn't started yet, check back later.
    • All Expired — the access window has closed.

Step 2: Open a group and choose a lesson

  • Click Open Lessons on any card. You'll see all the lessons inside that word list group.
  • Each lesson card shows its title, cover image, and current status — whether it's your Current Lesson, already Completed, or locked until you finish a previous one.
  • If your teacher scheduled specific lessons, you'll see tabs at the top to filter by Available, Upcoming, and Expired.
  • Click Lessons on a card to open that lesson and start working.

Step 3: See what's inside a lesson

  • Every lesson opens on an Activities page — your hub for that lesson. You'll see a card for each activity your teacher has turned on.
  • Activities can include:
    • Vocabulary — learn word meanings and definitions
    • Spelling — practice spelling each word
    • Typing — type words to reinforce your memory
    • Writing — write sentences using the words
    • Vocab Beats — learn through music and songs
    • Story Time — read a story with the words in context
    • Poem — explore the words through poetry
    • Spelling Test  and Vocabulary Test  — graded tests marked with a star
  • A strip at the top shows which activities are Available today based on your teacher's day settings.

Step 4: Complete your activities

  • Click any activity card to start. Each activity has its own flow and tracks your results automatically.
  • After finishing, the card updates to show your result:
    • Completed — activity done successfully (shown in green).
    • Grade: X% — your score on a test. Green means you passed, red means you need to try again.
    • Needs Redo — your teacher has asked you to redo this activity.
    • Waiting teacher grade — your teacher is reviewing your answer (common for Writing activities).
  • Use the left sidebar to jump directly to any activity type or to access your Study Cards, PDFs, and Word List at any time.

Step 5: Track your progress

  • Each lesson card on the lessons page shows two small icons — one for Spelling and one for Vocabulary — that turn green when you pass those tests.
  • When all activated tests in a lesson are passed, the lesson is marked Completed with a green checkmark on the cover image.
  • Words you pass on tests are added to your Banked Words, where you can review and practice them anytime.

? If you got some words wrong during practice, look for the Practice Words button (bottom right corner of the lesson). It shows the words you struggled with so you can focus on them before your next test.
