How Banked Words Work for Students

Every word you successfully pass on a spelling or vocabulary test doesn't disappear — it gets saved to your Banked Words collection. From there, you can review them, practice them daily, and work toward mastering them for good.

Step 1: How words get banked

• A word is added to your Banked Words collection the moment you pass it on a Spelling Test or Vocabulary Test inside a word list lesson.
• You can also manually save words from the Word of the Day widget on your dashboard by clicking Save word to Word Bank.
• Each word is saved only once — no duplicates — and stays in your collection permanently.

Step 2: Your Banked Words page

• Click Banked Words in the left sidebar to open your collection. At the top you'll see three summary cards:
  • Banked Words — total number of words you've collected.
  • Mastered Words — how many of those words you've fully mastered.
  • Zoodle Minutes — bonus playtime with Zoodle earned through practice.
• Below the summary, your words appear in a table. You can:
  • Search for a specific word using the search bar.
  • Filter by status — show all words or mastered words only.
  • Sort by Date Acquired or Last Training Date by clicking those column headers.

Step 3: Understanding your word ranks

• Every banked word has a mastery rank shown as a three-segment progress bar in the table.
• Each time you answer a word correctly on the daily review test, it moves up one rank:

• The Status column shows In Progress for words still working toward Rank 3, and Mastered in green once they reach it.

Step 4: Take the daily review test

• Click Start Practicing to begin a review session. A dialog will appear asking you to choose the test format:
  • Quick Review Test — up to 10 randomly selected words.
  • Review Test — up to 20 randomly selected words.
• You need at least 3 banked words to start. Once you confirm, the test begins and cannot be cancelled.
• Each question presents the word and asks you to choose the correct answer — definition, synonym, spelling, or missing letters. You can press A, B, C, or D on your keyboard to select an option and Enter to submit.
• You can take one test per day. If you've already taken one, a countdown will show when the next test becomes available.

Step 5: Check your results and rank upgrades

• After the test, a results screen shows your score and a detailed breakdown of every question — what you answered, whether it was correct, and what the right answer was.
• For every word you got right, you'll see a rank upgrade message:
  • "Your word [word] has been upgraded to Rank 2."
  • "? Your word [word] has been mastered (Rank 3)!"
• Every correct answer also earns you 3 minutes of Zoodle playtime. The total earned is shown on the results screen.

? Every word you master counts toward your Mastered Words Goal — the milestone set by your teacher that unlocks a Word Mastery Certificate. Keep practicing daily to reach it faster!
