How to Give Students Another Try on Vocabulary or Spelling Tests

Created by Vocab Loco, Modified on Tue, 2 Sep at 8:56 PM by Vocab Loco

Sometimes students may use all their allowed tries on a Vocabulary Test or Spelling Test. When that happens, they’ll see this message:
“No tries left. Ask your teacher for a PIN.”

Don’t worry—teachers have two easy options to help!

Option 1: Use the Override PIN

  1. Teacher Login: Log in to your teacher account.

  2. Go to Customize Program: From the left-hand menu, select Customize Program.

  3. Find Override Password: Scroll down to the section labeled Override password (lock icon ?).

  4. Get Your PIN: A 4-digit PIN code is displayed.

    • Share this with the student when they need another try.

    • You can reset the PIN anytime if you prefer a new code.

? When the student enters the PIN, the test will unlock for one more attempt.

Option 2: Adjust Test Settings

If you find that your current test settings are too restrictive, you can update them directly in your word list settings.

  • Go to Assigned Word Lists.

  • Click Step 3 – Modules.

  • Under Spelling Test or Vocabulary Test, you can:

    • Raise or lower the Minimum Passing Grade.

    • Increase the number of Allowed Tries (for example, from 1 to 3 tries).

These changes will apply for all students assigned that list.

For Students

  • If you run out of tries, ask your teacher for their Override PIN.

  • Enter the code when prompted, and the test will unlock for another attempt.

? Tip from Cactus Carl:
Teachers hold the keys! They can either give you their secret PIN for one more shot, or adjust your test settings if you need a little extra room to succeed.
