Q: Why Can't My Student Unlock the Next List in Progress Mode?

Created by Ace Turner, Modified on Thu, 1 Oct at 9:28 AM by Ace Turner

A: In Progress mode, students unlock the next list only after they complete the current one. Completing a list means the student must pass every test that is currently turned ON for that list.

1. Check which tests are enabled

Open the list settings and look at the Vocabulary Test and Spelling Test toggles.

  • If both tests are ON, the student must pass both before the next list unlocks.
  • If only one test is ON, the student only needs to pass that one.

Passing the Vocabulary Test alone is not enough when the Spelling Test is also enabled (and the other way around).

2. Don’t confuse “Require practice” with turning a test off

The setting “Require ENABLED practice before Test” is separate from the test itself being enabled. Turning that practice requirement off does not turn the test off — it only means students do not have to finish practice activities before taking the test.

If you only want one test to count for Progress, turn the other test OFF.

3. After changing test settings, have the student reopen the list

If the student already passed the required test(s) and you just turned a test OFF, ask them to open that list once. That lets Vocab Loco register the list as complete and unlock the next one.

4. Still stuck?

You can manually move a student forward or backward using the Set Current Lesson tool.

If it still doesn’t unlock, contact support and include:

  • the student’s username
  • the name of the list they completed
