How to Allow Students to Replay Tests

Created by Vocab Loco, Modified on Tue, 28 Apr at 6:26 PM by Ace Turner

By default, students can replay all games and activities as many times as they want — even after completing them. However, Spelling Tests and Vocabulary Tests are locked once a student meets the required passing grade. This article explains how to allow students to retry tests as well.

How it works

Once a student finishes a game (even with a perfect score), they will see a green Completed ribbon. They can still click and play it again anytime for extra practice or review. This makes it easy to:

  • Encourage students to retry activities even after they passed the lesson.
  • Support mastery through repetition without restriction.

How to Allow Students to Replay Tests

Step 1: Go to Word Lists

  • From your Teacher Dashboard, click Word Lists in the left sidebar.

Step 2: Open the Lists Assigned to Students tab

  • At the top of the page, select the Lists Assigned to Students tab.
  • You will see all of your currently assigned word lists.

Step 3: Access the activity settings

You can reach the activity settings in three ways:

  • Option A: Click Settings at the bottom of the group card, then select Edit Assignment. In the modal, select Activities (step 3).
  • Option B: Click the Activities counter (e.g., "9 on · 24 off") on the group card. This opens the activity overview modal directly — you can toggle activities on or off without entering the full assignment editor.
  • Option C: Click the group card image. In the What do you want to edit? modal, select Activities (step 3).

Step 4: Adjust the test settings

To allow students to retry Spelling Tests or Vocabulary Tests, choose one of the following options:

  • Increase the allowed number of tries for the test.
  • Raise the required passing grade to 100% so the test is never considered fully passed and students can always retry.

? Pro Tip: All games and activities (outside of tests) can be replayed freely at any time — no settings changes needed. The Completed ribbon does not block access to the activity.

Q: Will replaying a game overwrite the student's previous score?
A: No. Replaying a game does not erase previous scores. Progress and completion records are kept.
