How to Set the Current Lesson in Word Lists

Teachers often want students to see only one lesson at a time — for example, moving the class from Lesson 1 to Lesson 2 while keeping future lessons locked. In Vocab Loco, you do this by setting a student's current lesson (progress position) for an assigned word list group.

How to Set the Current Lesson in Word Lists

Important: Which mode supports Set Current Lesson?

  • Set Current Lesson works for students who are in Progress mode (students without a schedule).
  • If a student is managed by Schedule (has scheduled dates), they cannot be moved using Set Current Lesson.
  • In Mix mode, you can still use Set Current Lesson — but only for the students who are in Progress inside that assignment.

Progress vs Mix vs Schedule: What is the difference?

  • Progress: students unlock word lists sequentially (List 1 → List 2 → List 3). The next list typically opens after passing the required test(s). Dates do not control access.
  • Schedule: students only see word lists that are scheduled for them, and only during the scheduled date window. Passing is not required to open the next scheduled lesson.
  • Mix: within the same assigned group, some students are on Schedule and others are on Progress. Each student is in one mode only.

Step 1: Go to Word Lists

  • From your Teacher Dashboard, click Word Lists in the left sidebar.

Step 2: Open the Lists Assigned to Students tab

  • At the top of the page, select the Lists Assigned to Students tab.
  • Find the assigned word list group you want to manage.

Step 3: Open Set Current Lesson

  • On the assigned group card, click Settings (the three-dot menu).
  • Select Set Current Lesson.

⚠️ Note: If the assignment is fully managed by Schedule (all students have scheduled dates), this option will be disabled and you will be directed to edit schedules instead.

Step 4: Move students to a new current lesson

  • In the modal, you will see a list of students and their lesson track.
  • Progress students show clickable lesson numbers (1, 2, 3…) — click a lesson number to set that student's current lesson.
  • Scheduled students show a Scheduled chip — they cannot be moved here.

Step 5: Optional bulk move

  • To move multiple students at once:
  • Select students or use Select all movable.
  • Choose the lesson number in Move selected to lesson.
  • Click Apply.

? Pro Tip: Use Schedule when you want lesson access controlled strictly by dates. Use Progress when you want access controlled by sequence and mastery, and occasionally need to manually move the class forward with Set Current Lesson.
