How Lexile® Ranges Work in Vocab Loco

Created by Vocab Loco, Modified on Sat, 2 May at 3:16 PM by Ace Turner

Some vocabulary lists in Vocab Loco include Lexile® Ranges (for example, "Grade 4 — 635L–950L"). These ranges help teachers match vocabulary difficulty to general grade-level reading expectations.

How Lexile® Ranges Work in Vocab Loco

What are Lexile® Ranges?

Lexile® measures are widely used to describe the reading difficulty of texts. In Vocab Loco, some vocabulary lists include Lexile Ranges as a guide to help educators align vocabulary instruction with reading comprehension levels commonly associated with each grade.

⚠️ Note: Lexile Ranges in Vocab Loco are approximations, not official Lexile® scores or MetaMetrics-certified measures.

How are Lexile Ranges used in Vocab Loco?

Vocab Loco uses Lexile Ranges to show word list complexity — not to measure student performance. Teachers can use these ranges to:

  • Select grade-appropriate word lists.
  • Align vocabulary instruction with reading programs that use Lexile ranges.
  • Group students by reading level using comparable ranges.

Why can't I coordinate Lexile scores?

Vocab Loco focuses on vocabulary growth, spelling mastery, and word understanding — not reading comprehension metrics. While you can choose word lists by Lexile Range, Vocab Loco does not assign or track individual Lexile® scores for students.

If you used our legacy program (VocabClass), you may recall direct Lexile coordination tools — those features have been replaced by flexible grade-based word lists and custom assignment tools in Vocab Loco.

How Lexile labels appear in Vocab Loco

Each word list is labeled by grade and range:

  • Grade 3 — 415L–760L
  • Grade 4 — 635L–950L
  • Grade 5 — 770L–1080L
  • Grade 6 — 855L–1165L
  • Grade 7 — 925L–1235L
  • Grade 8 — 985L–1295L
  • Grade 9 — 1040L–1350L

Because "Lexile Range" already appears in the category title, individual list names display only the grade and numeric range for clarity and trademark compliance.
