How to Set the Current Lesson and Lock Other Lessons in Vocab Loco

Created by Vocab Loco, Modified on Wed, 27 Aug at 3:09 PM by Vocab Loco

Teachers often want students to see only one lesson at a time—for example, moving the class from Lesson 1 to Lesson 2 while keeping all future lessons locked. Here’s how to set this up in Vocab Loco

Step 1: Assign Word Lists (Tests + Requirements)

When you assign the word list group, this is where you decide how students will progress.

  1. Go to Assign Word Lists.

  2. Select which students you want to see these lists (step 2)

  3. Turn on the Spelling and/or Vocabulary test. (step 3)

  4. Set a minimum passing grade (for example, 70%).

  5. Choose how many tries are allowed.

  6. Select the Available Days (for example, Fridays only).

✅With this setup, students cannot advance to the next lesson until they meet the passing grade on the required test.

✅If you select Fridays only, students will remain on the weekly lesson until they pass Friday’s test.

Step 2: Reset Starting Lesson (Optional)

By default, Vocab Loco places all students at Lesson 1 in the group. If you’d like them to begin at a different lesson:

  1. Open the Set Lesson feature.

  2. Select your students.

  3. Click on the lesson number where you want them to start (for example, Lesson 2).

Example in Action

  • Teacher assigns Lesson 2 as the starting point.

  • The Spelling test is set for Fridays with a 70% passing grade.

  • Students remain on Lesson 2 until they pass the Friday test.

  • Lesson 3 will stay locked until that happens.

✅ Quick Tips

  • Always set tests and requirements first in Assign Word Lists.

  • Use Set Lesson if you want students to start on a lesson other than Lesson 1.

  • Control progression in one of two ways:

    • Tests (Recommended) → students advance by mastery.

    • Scheduling → students lists open by calendar dates. (you can schedule by student or bulk scheduling)

Option 2: Strict On/Off by Date (Scheduling)

If you’d prefer to control lessons by calendar dates instead of tests:

  1. Go to Assign Word Lists.

  2. In Step 4 (Scheduling), set a Start Date and an End Date for each list.

  3. Students will only see the lists during the scheduled dates.

  4. When the end date passes, the list automatically closes, and the next one opens.

✅ Be sure to set both start and end dates for every list—otherwise, the schedule will not control visibility correctly.
