If you’re seeing word suggestions appear while students are taking a spelling test, it can feel like they’re being given the answers—and we understand your concern! Here's what's happening and how to fix it.
✅ What’s Causing This?
While Vocab Loco is designed to disable autocomplete and spellcheck, certain devices (especially iPads and mobile phones) may still show predictive text suggestions as students type. These suggestions are generated by the device’s keyboard, not by our program.
We’ve already disabled:
Autocomplete
Spellcheck
Special characters
But despite our settings, some devices override these and continue showing suggestions.
✅ How to Turn Off Predictive Text (iPad/iPhone)
If you're using an iPad or iPhone, follow these steps to turn off predictive text:
Open the Settings app
Tap General
Tap Keyboard
Toggle off Predictive
Once predictive text is off, suggestions will no longer appear during the spelling test.
✅ Extra Tip: Use a Physical Keyboard
If you're using an external (Bluetooth) keyboard with your device, predictive text usually won’t appear at all—making it a great workaround for spelling activities.
