✅How to Set Up a Mixed-Grade Classroom in Vocab Loco

Example: One 3rd Grade Student and One 5th Grade Student

Each student should be assigned the correct grade-level word list—even if they are in the same classroom. Here's how to do that:

Step 1: Go to the Word Lists Page

From your Teacher Panel, click Word Lists on the left menu.
Click the Assign Word Lists card in the middle of the page.

Step 2: Start a New Word List Assignment

Click the Assign Word List button with the plus sign.

Step 3: Select a Word List

Use the dropdowns to make your selections:

  • Word List Type: Vocabulary

  • Word List Category: Vocab Loco

  • Word List Group: 3rd Grade (for your 3rd-grade student)
    Then click Next Step

Step 4: Choose the Student(s)

On the student selection screen, check only your 3rd grade student(s).
Click Next Step

Step 5: Review or Modify Modules

The program will auto-select modules based on grade level.
You can keep them as-is or toggle modules on/off.
Click Next Step

Step 6: Scheduling (Optional)

You can skip this step if you want the list to run automatically based on student progress.
Click Save

Step 7: Repeat for the 5th Grade Student

Start a new assignment again from the Assign Word Lists page.
Repeat the same steps above, but in Step 3, select 5th Grade as the Word List Group.
In Step 4, check only your 5th grade student.
Continue through the steps and click Save at the end.

Final View

Once complete, you will see both 3rd and 5th Grade word list tiles on your Assign Word Lists page. Each tile shows the number of lessons, total words, and how many students are assigned.

Now both of your students are set up and working at their correct level—even in the same class!
